Evolution In A Test Tube: Scientists Make Molecules That Evolve And Compete, Mimicking Behavior Of Darwin's Finches
A group of scientists at The Scripps Research Institute has set up the microscopic equivalent of the Galapagos Islands—an artificial ecosystem inside a test tube where molecules evolve to exploit distinct ecological niches, similar to the finches that Charles Darwin famously described in "The Origin of Species" 150 years ago.

Swine Flu Knackers Eternity?

Israel renames unkosher swine flu

Israeli Health Minister Yakov Litzman has been updating a nervous public on the swine flu epidemic - and he started by renaming it for religious reasons.
"We will call it Mexican flu. We won't call it swine flu," said Mr Litzman, who belongs to the ultra-religious United Torah Judaism party.
Pigs are considered unclean under Jewish dietary laws. Muslims also do not eat pork for similar reasons.

It doesn't matter what you call it dude - If, as seems to be being suggested, Swine Flu contains DNA from Bird, Human and Pig(1), the flu contains a portion of porcine DNA, so anyone who contracts this disease will be replicating pork DNA inside them until the anti-virals kick in.

If a jewish or muslim person catches Swine Flu will they be considered by their own 'team' unkosher/unclean?

What does this mean for the jewish or muslim individual's eternity?

This is one of the Too many questions

The Bible - Questionable Origin?

New data revealed this week reveals that the Judeo-Christian Bible is not what we think.

In Red Dwarf (Series 1 Episode 8: Better Than Life) a hologramatic news reader relays that archaeologists discovered a missing 'dedication' page from the bible, which clearly states that all characters portrayed were fictitious.

In a frighteningly similar occurrence, new information from the recently discovered 'lost scroll' from the dead sea scrolls, details that the word used to describe the collected texts is correctly defined as 'BIBLE', however the scroll further reveals that the word is in fact an acronym and should be read as -
B.I.B.L.E

Extensive studies of the faded cuneiform are still proceeding, but initial translations are gaining a firm foothold with ancient language scholars, who seem to now be in agreement that the acronym represents the full title of an apparently mischievous work of fiction as

Big Irrelevant Book of Lies and Exaggerations.

Argghh... Run for your Bible... The Atheists are coming

This is actually great news, but check the irresponsible, inflammatory, fearmongering article - 'TARGET' carries such military overtones.

'
Atheists target UK schools
By Jonathan Wynne-Jones, Religious Affairs Correspondent
25 Apr 2009

Telegraph Article Here

Atheists are targeting schools in a campaign designed to challenge Christian societies, collective worship and religious education.

Backed by professors Richard Dawkins and AC Grayling, the initiative aims to establish a network of atheist societies in schools to counter the role of Christianity.
'
"challenge Christian societies, collective worship and religious education" and "counter the role of Christianity"

OUTRAGEOUS!!

Not bring an alternative viewpoint but

"CHALLENGE" and "COUNTER"

Then further into the article the quote from Simon Calvert

'
Simon Calvert of the Christian Institute said: "Atheists are becoming increasingly militant in their desperate attempts to stamp out faith. It is deeply worrying that they now want to use children to attack the Christian ethos of their schools.
'
As far as I can see atheists are being far less militant than any of the religions - you don't see an atheist going murdering or dying for an imaginary friend!

This is a really a story about how, finally, an alternative to the primitive and supernatural is finding in roads into the territory formerly held by doctrine, dogma and scripture.

Education can only be a good thing, it only illuminates the dark recesses of superstition and reveals religion as myth but the Telegraph article can only stir up fear and hatred.

Oppose the Lhasa Death Sentences

From the International Campaign for Tibet:
"
Oppose the Lhasa Death Sentences

The Lhasa Intermediate People's Court in the Tibet Autonomous Region, sentenced two Tibetans to death on charges relating to "starting fatal fires" on April 8. These are the first known death sentences passed against Tibetans in connection with the Lhasa riots on March 14, 2008, and the first known death sentences against Tibetans since 2003. Two other Tibetans were sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, and one other was sentenced to life imprisonment in a total of three separate cases of arson, reportedly involving the deaths of seven people, according to the state media.

An appeal to the Chinese authorities was published by Václav Havel, Desmond Tutu and others last week (see below). Tibet groups around the world are campaigning to draw attention to the lack of due process and independent observation of these death sentence trials, and are calling on their governments to urge China to re-try the defendants in fair and open trials under international standards of justice. Please add your name in support of this appeal below. The International Tibet Support Network, a global coalition of Tibet-related non-governmental organizations, is coordinating this effort and will receive support numbers from ICT as this campaign moves forward. Thank you."

BBC bends for Humanists.

Earlier this year I blogged about a letter myself and a bunch of other atheists, organised by Gavin Orland, sent to the BBC about the biased nature of the radio 4 'Today' show's 'thought for the day' slot.
We all got the same 'bog off' reply.
You can read the letter and their response here

However, This week it seems that Auntie beeb has bowed to reason!

Humanists rejoice! BBC will consult them on religion

For the first time, the broadcaster will take advice on programmes like 'Thought for the Day' from a secularist

Is absence on Holy days just truancy?

It occurred to me that any day taken to worship the unprovable or mythological should be considered an unnecessary interruption to genuine education.

Should absence on on 'religious' days be viewed as simple truancy?

Wikipedia says Truancy is any intentional unauthorized absence from compulsory schooling. The term typically describes absences caused by students of their own free will, and usually does not refer to legitimate "excused" absences, such as ones related to medical conditions.

Religious days are the holy days, those days which mark this or that religion's special moments for 'god'.
Regardless of how important the events honoured on those days are to the faithful, they all pertain, relate or refer to creationism.

How is it right for a school, a place of learning about factual reality, to condone absence for purposes that directly oppose factual reality?

Schools teach evolution, so how can they consider a holy day as a legitimate excuse for absence?

There is no proof of god, so shouldn't the validity of using him as an excuse for absence be considered illegitimate?

So, should absence on on 'religious' days be viewed as simple truancy?
Yes I think they probably should.

No GOD - The Explanation

The point of the first blog There is No GOD - Official (If you haven't read it, you should read it first; it'll make more sense that way!) was to highlight that we may not be heeding a very important piece of advice, which is more important today than ever; NEVER BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ, especially if the text you are believing in is something which you may not have had the opportunity to read and understand without anyone elses presumptions, assumptions or conclusions of what the text actually means.

The Point of this second blog is to display, (by dissecting the first blog) why one should ALWAYS be aware, that the facts of ANY written work may not be as the work seems to show, and that the reader's 'life experience' adds to the tale in order to complete any omissions and comprehend the tale; just as we fill in the in-between frames when watching a cartoon.

There is No GOD - OfficialThe breakdown
Two days ago at 4:37am in a back alley near the
1'Dog & Lyre' Pub in Croydon, London, I met with a young man.

1The Dog & Lyre spoken quickly, could easily sound like "DAWG GONE LIAR"

2Mr. G had in his possession what he had described to me as a dossier of documents, highly sensitive in nature and concerning the church.

2It is not made clear if Mr. G is the young man the reporter met.
He handed me the dossier, said I had 24 hours, then he needed it back. I agreed and we were shaking hands when he suddenly tensed and looked
3 very scared, like he'd seen something or someone he didn't like; I turned to look but there was nothing there. When I turned back
4 he was pelting down the alley like there was a rhino after him; I've never seen a guy run so fast.

3 This is the reporter's impression of how Mr. G looked; for all we know he may have had wind! It was their first meeting and it was dark! And the fact that the reporter saw nothing when he turned, may support this theory.
4He may have run because it wasn't wind but some sort of gastric or bowel disorder, he may have urgently needed the toilet! Also, it's unclear if the reporter has ever seen anyone run ever; it's assumed that he measures human running capacity the same way the rest of us do!
Yesterday Mr. G was found floating in the Thames. This does not state that Mr. G is dead, just floating, he may have had water wings and, you don't have to be dead to be found!
He took a risk to expose that which a secret global coalition of high-ranking church leaders
5
would see buried. So, with respect to Mr. G and in the hope that letting the information out will make killing me pointless, I've decide to publish and be damned.

5If there was “a secret global coalition of high-ranking church leaders” isn’t this exactly the type of document they would want to conceal? Without evidence of such a group the statement is vacuus.
The documents Mr. G was silenced for stealing are a report, by 'global opinion poll giants' Ersatz & Postiche, which has taken over almost half a century to compile and collate, and interpret. In the biggest survey ever undertaken to discover what the believers actually believe, Ersatz & Postiche randomly selected a single member of every church in each country and asked them to secretly and anonymously fill out a multiple choice questionnaire. The questions were designed to reveal how much actual belief in their god, each individual had; as opposed to any other reasons they may want to attend a church. Dictionary Definitions:

Ersatz: An artificial or inferior substitute or imitation.
Postiche: Something that is a counterfeit; not what it seems to be.
Last night, my apartment was
6ransacked and the dossier was taken, so I now have no evidence to back this story. But worse, although I'd read the report returning home on the tube, I hadn't managed to make any notes. So, from
7memory then, some details of the contents.
  1. Only 3.9% of all religion followers fully believe in an actual "creator of all things"
  2. 98% of all religion followers admitted to never having had a prayer answered!

6 It is not stated who ransacked the apartment, nor if the dossier was taken as part of a general burglary.
The reader must assume, because of the mention a couple of paragraphs earlier that the unsubstantiated 'secret global coalition of high-ranking church leaders' are the likely perpetrators.
7 The reporter is relaying from MEMORY - so the next information has to be treated with suspicion
I remember, the report's conclusion was very wordy but
8 to paraphrase for expediency; 'We all know that heaven is just a big scam to keep everybody sweet, and we don't mind the notion because we all have someone we'd like to see again.'
8 Given that we know the reporter is speaking from memory, we MUST question his stated motive for paraphrasing. It is likely not expediency but that he just can't remember clearly and is conveying the gist; the problem here is it's the gist as he understood it, after one reading, on the tube. It may not be the truth, he may have misinterpreted, misremembered or misinterpreted what he remembered! Further if he is hiding the fact that he can't remember, one must wonder what other 'word economies' he has used throughout.
So there it is, the great majority of believers, believe there is no god and all religions are fake!
If you don't hear from me again - Peace, Love and Truth but always, with EYES wide!
Crispy Sea - The Atheist Creator
A Wild, unsubstantiated claim by the reporter that bears only passing relevance to what the 'facts' revealed.

I have attempted to highlight points in the story where the reader must make assumptions in order to understand the landscape of the tale. My hope is that the points display how ANY text, which has not been SPECIFICALLY WRITTEN to avoid the need for assumption, is deeply suspect.

I'm Atheist because I cannot see how any religious text could claim to have been written under such a criteria and so for me, all scriptures must be regarded as 'suspect'.

However, personal beliefs aside, as I said before, this holds true for ALL text,

When they say 'read the small print', they should say
read the small print until YOU understand it!

but also, the warning should be extended to ALL conversation and EVERY TV NEWS report.

Thai Royal Family - Intolerant or just Insecure?

Ten years jail for "insulting" Thai king

A court has jailed a Thai man for ten years after he posted doctored images of the royal family on a website.

"... Suwicha Thakhor, 34, was arrested in January after police traced the online postings to his home computer. The harsh sentence is latest move in what critics say is a concerted campaign to suppress political debate in the kingdom.

Mr Suwicha, accompanied in court by his parents, broke into tears when a court official read out the ruling.
'The suspect committed a serious crime and deserves the most severe punishment,' the verdict read. 'Therefore the court sentences the suspect to 20 years in jail but as he has confessed the charges the sentence is reduced to 10 years.' ..."

Get over yourselves Thai royal family!
You are just people
You wipe your arse same as everybody else.
You probably eat and produce noxious gases,
and I'd bet you've puked over some lovely things,
probably more lovely than anything any of your subjects have ever puked over.
Your privileged position can be considered no more than an accident of birth.

You are not big, clever or special.

Are you so insecure in majesty that you must squash all those who oppose?
Are your royal credentials so weak that they cannot withstand a little healthy mockery?

Get yourselves from up yourselves, hand out a good shaking to any self-righteous, self-important control freaks that you find and

Release the people who have mocked you.

Update: 4the December 2011
And there's more of the same at the moment, but toady they're even more insecure.
Thai Facebookers warned not to 'like' anti-monarchy groups
Country's strict laws against insulting the monarch have been used to jail a man for 20 years for sending text messages.

A government minister in Thailand has warned Facebook users that anyone pressing the "like" button on posts that might be offensive to the monarchy could be prosecuted under the country's strict lèse-majesté laws.

Ironing Out Global Warming

Are you worried
about climate change

Scientists may have the answer!
Irons!

Scientists say:-
"Collectively, Irons use a huge amount of electricity, not to mention what we are now calling the G.I.T. (Global Iron Temperature) This is the collective temperature of all those hot irons and has been estimated to have the capacity to add a number of degrees to the global average!"

If we turned off all the irons, we may be able to save a portion of the southern ice cap, possibly even halt or at least slow the prospective Penguin extinction.
A social commentator suggested:-
"It's merely a social etiquette, an affectation; a way to be seen to be better than your neighbour. We could easily abandon ironing to save the planet."
Mrs Henhouse, speaking from the recycling depot where she'd just returned her iron and ironing board, said

"I'm just thrilled, I've dreamed of this moment. The man who came to talk to me about it, explained it all very clearly;
If I stop ironing and sit down for the same amount of time, which for me with 5 kids is about 7 hours a week, I'll be saving the planet. It's brilliant!"

So there we have it, a brand new way to save the planet that saves you time, money and energy. I can't think of another way to be green with so many up-sides and almost no down-sides!
So we'd look a bit wrinkled, I say it's a small price to pay to save the earth.
